| John says: "Caylus is a deep strategy game with many paths to victory. The kings/castle theme is excellent with top-notch components and game board. The rule book is a little scary, and long, but the rewards are great! Additionally, your first game of this will last a few hours, as players will need to get acquainted with the mechanics. In fact, you may spend the entire first game getting used to the game, leaving strategy for future games. This is a meaty game with very little luck. Caylus works with any number of players from 2 to 5. If you've played this, you can handle most games!"

The players embody master builders. By building the King’s castle and developing the city around it, they earn prestige points and gain the King’s favor. When the castle is finished, the player who has earned the most prestige wins the game.
